theIndonesian – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has closed 5,000 banking accounts related to online gambling since the end of last year until March 2024.
OJK’s Chief Executive of Banking Supervision, Dian Ediana Rae, revealed that OJK immediately took firm action against banking accounts related to online gambling after obtaining definitive data.
“OJK has taken action against 5,000 accounts related to online gambling,” said OJK’s Chief Executive of Banking Supervision, Dian Ediana Rae at the Financial Services Sector Assessment & OJK Policy Press Conference of the April 2024 Monthly RDK Results (RDKB) which was held virtually via Zoom, Monday (13/5).
Dian said, the data on 5,000 bank accounts was obtained after coordinating with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo).
Separately, the discussion about online gambling must continue to be spread throughout Indonesian society, because there are still many Indonesians who use online gambling. Even Indonesia has entered an online gambling emergency.
“Online gambling is widely followed by our society, especially by young people. Even now online gambling behavior is considered a common thing by the Indonesian people. By 2023, there will be 2.76 million Indonesians playing online gambling with a money turnover of Rp 200 trillion,” said Member of Commission I DPR RI Taufik R Abdullah, in the Aptika Kominfo webinar, recently.
Taufik said the driving factor for the rise of illegal online loans and online gambling is the ease of uploading online gambling applications/websites/sites. Then there are difficulties in eradicating because many server locations are placed abroad.
