theIndonesian – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi held a bilateral meeting with 78th President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali.
According to a statement received in Nusa Dua, Bali, Monday, one of the things discussed by Retno and Francis during the meeting on Sunday (19/5) was the Palestinian issue.
In this regard, Retno welcomed the passing of UN General Assembly Resolution number ES 10/23 which gives full membership privileges to Palestine at the UN General Assembly on May 10.
The resolution, she said, is an important step in efforts to encourage equal rights for Palestine among world countries.
However, the resolution is not enough. Retno emphasized that the next step is to ensure that sustainable peace is realized, humanitarian aid is delivered without obstacles, and Palestine achieves full membership status at the UN.
In addition, Retno and Francis also discussed multilateralism and climate change.
In terms of multilateralism, Retno said that the UN must strengthen its role as more than just an anchor of multilateralism. She also emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to continue to support the realization of this.
The foreign minister said that Indonesia welcomes the plan to organize the Summit of the Future in September 2024 and hopes that the meeting will produce concrete results, including in encouraging multilateral architecture reform and accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Regarding climate change, Retno also emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to collaborate in overcoming sea rise which greatly impacts small island states.
Therefore, Retno said that Indonesia supports the organization of the High-Level Meeting on the Sea Level Rise also in September and hopes that the meeting will produce concrete results.
